Title of Entry: A new year
Caring for my Mom Yvonne
By Roger de Lusignan on 2/10/2008 9:03 AM

Hard to believe it is already 2008.   In January the 1st year anniversary of my Dad's death occurred.  They say that the 1st year is always the hardest.   I thought I had finished grieving, but Christmas was hard.  We were setting up the tree and I pulled out a box with writing in my Dad's hand and it just brought an unexpected wave of great sadness.

I organized a dinner on the anniversary of his death for my mom to get out of her care home and my cousins and aunt to come for dinner.  Unfortunately in was not meant to be.  My aunt was sick, my mom was sick and I was sick.  I hope to reschedule soon.

My mom still continues to battle periodic infections, she had to have an IV in January and now she is back on orals due to a recurring UTI.

Title of Entry: Thanksgiving Update
Caring for my Mom Yvonne
By Roger de Lusignan on 11/18/2007 9:39 AM

This last week was a very busy week.   I am very excited that I was able to arrange for wheel chair transport up to my cousin's house for Thanksgiving.  This will allow my mom to be with her sister and all her nephews and nieces.   This really perked her up and should be a great trip.

I was also able to get my Mom screened by Rediwheel, the county sponsored wheelchair transportation system.  This will enable her to go on weekly outings from the facility and be transported to my house to diner.   As I mentioned before it is difficult and painful for her to transfer to the car.

At this time of Thanksgiving, I am particularly thankful for my two cousins Kathy and Claudia.   Kathy has been an amazing friend to my mom and a support to me.  Claudia, my Mom's god daughter is making ...

Title of Entry: The energizer bunny
Caring for my Mom Yvonne
By Roger de Lusignan on 11/5/2007 1:34 PM

We had a nice visit with my Mom yesterday.  She is in good spirits, making jokes and seems to be with it mentally.

She is amazing and seems to have bounced back some.   I did speak with her doctor today and they are doing some therapy to help with her arm and the notes indicate that it is a little better in terms of pain and mobility.

I still continue to work to get my friends and family hooked up on MyCareCommunity.org

Title of Entry: Halloween Update
Caring for my Mom Yvonne
By Roger de Lusignan on 11/3/2007 3:35 PM

Hard to believe that we are in November already.   I plan to go and change the decorations in my Mom's room tomorrow to update from ghosts and goblins to turkeys and leaves.  My 9 year old daughter loves to do this and it seems to perk up Mom and her roommate.

My mom is still in pretty good spirits and was happy last weekend when my sister and youngest son came down from Seattle to visit.

We are struggling with her shoulder pain.  They can't seem to diagnose it and are only doing a reasonable job of managing it through medication.   It is not clear that my mom has the where with all to make PT effective, but I plan to explore that.

Title of Entry: Calm patch of water
Caring for my Mom Yvonne
By Roger de Lusignan on 10/14/2007 10:45 AM

Things seem to be going better with my mom.  Her blood sugar is more in control and other symptoms are more in control.  As a result of her being medically better her spirits are better.  I even got some jokes and laughs our of her.

Last week my daughter and I went for a visit and decorated her room for Halloween.

I am working on getting my family and friends signed up in my CareCommunity and I am particularly thankful to my cousin who has been frequently dropping in to see my mom.

Title of Entry: High Blood Suger and UTI
Caring for my Mom Yvonne
By Roger de Lusignan on 7/11/2007 11:45 AM

I saw my mom this week and talked to the night nurse.  She told me that she is having high blood sugar level in the 400 to 500 range.   She has been to see her endocrinologist and he is working to resolve it.    She also has a UTI that is contributing to this issue.  I will keep monitoring it.

Title of Entry: Current Hospitalization
Caring for my Mom Yvonne
By Roger de Lusignan on 6/19/2007 7:02 AM

On Friday the 15th Yvonne was hospitalized with a urinary tract infection.   She is on intravenous antibiotics and I expected her to be discharged this week.  We have been to see her every day and she always perks up when Marguerite walks in the room.  She can't remember that I visited her yesterday, but she always remembers that Marguerite does!

Sean is flying down from Seattle this week end by him self to spend the weekend with us and visit her.  she is looking forward to that.
