What happens when a caregiver gets sick?
Due to the volume of questions we receive for our “Ask an Expert” forum, we can’t post and answer every question. We hoped our community members could offer thoughts, advice or encouragement to the caregiver who wrote this question.

Thank you,

Dear CareCommunity,
I recently found out I have colon cancer and I'm the caregiver for my family member who suffers from an AIDS related disease and also is a home dialysis patient who can't perform their own dialysis. I was informed from the doctors that if I should attempt to remain as the caregiver my chances of recovery from the surgery and chemo treatments most likely won't be successful.

I'm left at a hard place to have my family member possible return back home and have the other family members take care of him, but from this point on they have not assisted for the last 4 years that I've dealt with this. This is very hard and emotionally draining right now as my own health welfare is at stake here and I'm not sure what to do. I looked at other options but financially I just don't have other options at this point. Please advise I'm feeling so lost.
